| Journal for Pre-Health Affiliated Students |
JPHASSpring 2002, Volume 1, Issue 2Editor's NoteWe are proud to present the Spring 2002 issue of the Journal for Pre-Health Affiliated Students (JPHAS) at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This issue has been created by a dedicated group of undergraduates, and we wish to extend our grateful appreciation to each individual that has worked and contributed to this issue. We also wish to humbly thank our Faculty Editorial Board and UIC Publications for their wisdom and guidance. We are grateful for the generous support of our sponsors, including the Department of Biological Sciences, UIC Publications, the Honors College, the College of Medicine, the Undergraduate Student Government, the College of Dentistry, the School of Public Health, the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience, and the Office of the Student Member of the Board of Trustees, without whose financial sponsorship, the publication of this journal would not be possible. The hard work of many individuals has provided the UIC community with an unique forum to exchange and share ideas and knowledge pertaining to health oriented professions. JPHAS was conceived as an expansion of the UIC undergraduate journal formerly known as the Pre-Med Journal. JPHAS has broadened its scope to include a variety of health related disciplines, relevant to the students considering future careers in medicine, nursing, public health, applied health sciences, and others. This publication recognizes the diversity of the interests of pre-health bound students and wishes to not only present a more comprehensive perspective, but also to strengthen the ties between the health oriented community at UIC. In this issue, we have included a review of the issues surrounding the regulation of resident work schedules in the News section, a student's choice to pursue an occupation in medical illustration in the Pre-Health Outlook section, the emergence of music and art therapy in the Features section, the advancements made in tissue engineering and ergonomics in the Research section, and the controversy surrounding herbal remedies in the Invited Opinions section. We hope pre-health affiliated students will find this publication resourceful and insightful as they prepare for their future academic and professional goals. Through this publication, JPHAS seeks to strengthen the interactive environment between the JPHAS staff and the community residing at UIC and beyond. We look forward to your questions, comments, and suggestions. Sincerely, |
