Subject: AASIA November Events!
Hello AASIA!
I hope you had a wonderful Halloween, ate lots of candy, and made good life choices. This week's meeting is an Art Workshop! We will have people teaching how to draw anime and make origami. If you'd like to learn or teach people something you know, we will have some art supplies to express yourself with!
Also, Imperial Ball tickets are being sold until November 11th, but buy your tickets by THIS Wednesday to get the DISCOUNTED price! The tickets are being sold IN FRONT OF THE BOOKSTORE.(caps make me sound like I'm shouting, doesn't it?) Monday through Thursday 10-2pm. We'll also be selling at our normal meeting time on Wednesday.

Subject: Next GBM: Model Minority Workshop / Bake Sale / Film Fest Info
Hello AASIA!
Sorry for the late notice...
Our next General Body Meeting is this Wednesday, September 16th from
4-6pm in SCE 613. We will be having a Model Minority Workshop from AARCC
(Asian American Resource and Cultural Center). Want to find out a little
about Asian American Identity? This is the place to be!
When: Wednesday, Sept. 16th from 4-6pm
Where: SCE 613 (on the 6th floor behind the elevators)
There is also a Bake Sale in BSB on the 17th! Come support AASIA and get
some tasty treats!

Film Festival Info!!!
If you are interested in making a film, please send me your name, email
and phone number. Film Submission Deadline is Friday, October 16th.
Members submissions are free, Non-members submissions are $5.
There is a 20 minute time limit on the film, and it must be in DVD format.
There should be no nudity, and no plagiarism. Also 10 seconds of black at
the end of the film. The film festival itself will be on October 28th. If
you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I look forward to seeing your submissions! Remember, there is no film
festival without any films. Happy Filming!

Subject: AASIA Co-Rec Basketball Intramurals
Hey AASIA,
For those who have been itching to play some ball, Intramural 5v5 Co-Rec Basketball will be starting this week! Our first game is
**THIS WEDNESDAY, September 16th, after our Model Minority Workshop at 7:10pm.**
Games are held at the Rec Center (SRF). DO NOT FORGET TO BRING YOUR I-CARD, or else you cannot play.
Since this is a Co-Rec tournament, this means both girls and guys are needed to play. If you're interested in playing for the AASIA team, please let me know asap via email, wlozad2@uic.edu, so that I can set up a roster for the AASIA team. Those interested, please bring appropriate clothing. We will meet up right after the Model Minority Workshop and head over to the court to warm-up as a team. This is a non-competitive tournament, so remember to have fun!!
Our games will be every Wednesday sometime after our AASIA meetings.

Subject: AASIA's 1st General Body Meeting!
Hello Asian American Students in Alliance!
AASIA's First General Body Meeting is next week!
When: Wednesday, September 2nd from 4-5pm
Where: Agape House ~ at South Campus across from the UIC Forum, on top of Masa's Italian Restaurant. There will be people to bring you there if you need help finding it. Also, you can take the 8 bus South on Halsted to Roosevelt if you don't want to walk.
If you want to walk with someone there, AASIA members will be waiting in front of the bookstore (on the Halsted St. side) to bring you there starting at 3:30pm. If you need more direction, please contact me.
Afterward, the Agape House has a free Yoga session from 5-6pm! Though a $5 donation is encouraged.

Who We Are?
Well, AASIA is the oldest Asian American student organization on campus, and everybody is welcome to be a part of it! Basically, our goal is to educate our members about various cultures through social, service, and academic means.
What do we do? Here's a sample of our planned events and programs for this year:
- BBQ (food! FREE FOOD!! ^_^)
- cultural workshops (Identity, "Model Minority," etc.)
- educational/social Cultural Nights (Hawaiian, Indian, etc.)
- guest speakers on various topics
- Mahjong/Karaoke/Game Night
- Imperial Ball (formal dance/ "prom")
- ImaginAsian (fashion/variety show)
- various social outings
- service events

- Most importantly, we do what YOU want to do! If you have any ideas of your own that weren't on this list, feel free to let us know and share them!
We plan on making this year exciting and enjoyable, but we need YOU to accomplish this goal!
