Annual friendly cricket tournament was played between two teams at UIC grounds
in downtown Chicago on 3rd September 05. One team comprised of players
from Sri Lankan residents in Chicago(Mostly UIC community) and suburbs
and the other consisted of Sri Lankans from Indiana (Mostly from Purdue University).
This event is organized by Sri Lankan Graduate Association of UIC(SLGSA)
and other chicago sri lankans providing an interesting outdoor
activity for member families.
After winning the toss Chicago invited Indiana to bat first.
Indiana set a target of 105 runs for the loss of nine wickets
in the allotted 20 overs for Chicago, which they made just
within 10 overs and 4 balls. Esala Chandrasena was the main
scorer from Chicago with 51 runs including 4 sixes and 5 fours. Esala
took two wickets and one elegant catch, was declared as the man
of the match.
