Constitution


ARTICLE I - Name The name of this organization shall be the Thai Student Assosication.

ARTICLE II - Purpose The purpose of this organization shall be to cooperating and exchange information among Thai students at UIC in a variety of environments. While experience and knowledge will be the backboard of the organization, we will strive for understanding and skill enhancement.

ARTICLE III - Membership Requirements
Section 1. Membership is limited to UIC Thai students; however, any persons wishing to participate in the activities are welcomed to do so.

Section 2. All members must meet the Board of Trustee's policies regarding nondiscrimination on the basis of race, religion, sex, or national origin.

Section 3. Eligibility Requirements of New Members All members must attend at UIC, unless approved by the president or advisor. Members are not required to pay up-front dues; however, they should be willing to positively contribute to the organization. All potential members must contact the primary contact person of the organization and supply the following information: Name, address, phone number, date of birth, email address, and initial reason for interest in the organization. Include other activities such as work and clubs. Exceptions will be noted.

Section 4. Expulsion of Members A member will be expelled under the following situations: Failure to meet the requirements under Article III (3) and failure to participate for over 1 semester. Additional situations will be examined in full by the officers and brought to the organization for a majority ruling (50% or more) for his/her expulsion.

ARTICLE IV - Officers

Section 1. Officers This organization shall have at least 5 officers; these officers are: 1 President 2 Vice President 1 Treasurer 1 Secretary

Section 2. Qualifications of Officers The President shall be in good academic standing, be willing to commit to organizing functions, and ensure the organizations' continuance when he/she leaves office. The Vice Presidents shall be in good academic standing. The Secretary shall be in good academic standing. The Treasurer shall be in good academic standing and ensure that the funds of the organization are properly allocated.

Section 3. Terms of Office

Officers will be elected 2 weeks prior to the start of the school year, and shall be organized and conducted by former officers or the advisor, initiated by the Secretary.

Section 4. Duties of Officers

The President is required to see that the organization shall following his or her term. It is required that the President re-register organization, run and coordinate public relations, coordinate and run meetings, and perform all necessary duties in collaboration with the other officers.

The Vice Presidents are required to assist with re-registration, conduction of public relations, coordination of meetings, and perform all necessary duties in collaboration with the other officers. The Vice Presidents shall run the meetings accordingly and perform other necessary duties in the absence of the President.

The Secretary is required to take minutes during meetings, elections, and perform other necessary duties at the request of the President and the Vice Presidents.

The Treasurer is required to properly allocate funds for the organization. An annual budget will be prepared at the start of each term. The Treasurer will update the organization at each meeting, and coordinate activities with the President. The Treasurer will be asked to make recommendations for resource development, and may appoint appropriate assistants.

Section 5. Provisions for Removal of Officers The officers' purpose is organizational and administrative. A breach of power or obligations can result in the removal of officers. In such a case, members will petition to the officers and a vote will take place for the removal. A majority ruling is necessary for removal.

Section 6. Legitimate Transfer of Power When an officer is removed from his/her seat, an immediate for will take place for a replacement officer. Power shall be transferred to the next person in the chain of command, and members shall vote to replace the secretary treasurer.

ARTICLE V - Elections

Section 1. Elections of officers shall be held 2 weeks prior to the start of the school year. Officers shall take their posts immediately following the election.

Section 2. Members of the organization and the faculty advisor have voting privileges. In the case of a stalemate, a second vote shall commence within one week of the initial election.

Section 3. The president shall distribute a notice of the election of officers immediately following the election.

ARTICLE VI - Meetings

Section 1. Regular meetings of this organization shall be held monthly, unless otherwise noted.

Section 2. The advisor or any of the officers may call special meetings. Requests for meetings should be made to the president or the advisor. Members shall be notified by email or by phone.

Section 3. A quorum shall consist of at least 25% of members for official business to be conducted and for business to be official. Decisions shall be based upon present members' votes.

ARTICLE VII - Advisors(s)

Section 1. The advisor of this organization shall be a full-time faculty or academic staff member at UIC. The advisor shall oversee activities and make recommendations.

ARTICLE VIII - Committees

Section 1. Committees shall be formed on an as-needed basis.

ARTICLE IX - Dues

Section 1. Dues will be collected on a periodical basis that will be decided upon by the officers and advisor(s). Members shall be notified well in advance. The amount shall not exceed $25 per person.

Section 2. The dues that are collected shall not be nationally distributed unless approved by the members of the organization.

ARTICLE X - Handling of Funds

Section 1. Amendments and revisions shall be reviewed annually by the advisor(s) and officers to ensure it is consistent with the officers' policies.

Section 2. A two-thirds majority shall be required for approval by members of the organizations for amendments and revisions, and members shall receive advanced notice of the vote. Section 3. The President shall be responsible for making the changes and distributing the new/changed document. The Campus Programs staff will be among those the document is distributed to.
