Chapter History

On March 17, 1992, Brother Mario A. Rueda of Northern Illinois University met with future Brothers, Gilberto Leal, Alejandro Reyther, and German Reyther at the Pier Room to discuss the possibilities of expanding Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity Inc. at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

On March 22, 1992, the first preliminary meeting was held by the interest group with Brother Mario A. Rueda and Brother Kevin Morris (also from NIU) at Alejandro Reyther's apartment. Brother Baltazar Mendoza (founding father of the Alpha Chapter at the University of Iowa) arrived later with future Brother Enrique Mellado, who had been in a previous interest group in conjunction with Columbia College in Chicago, but unfortunately, they disbanded. Once every one was present, Brother Baltazar Mendoza started the meeting, discussing what it took to become a Chapter.

That night, at 10:45 p.m., Brothers Baltazar Mendoza, Mario Rueda, and Kevin Morris began the initiation process with UIC prospects Gilberto Leal, Enrique Mellado, Alejandro Reyther, and German Reyther. Their line name became L.C.Q.D.R.S., founding fathers at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

On May 17, 1992, at 3:43:17 a.m., the founding fathers, L.C.Q.D.R.S., were finially activated into Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity Inc. with Brother German "Conspiracy" Reyther as Captain, Brother Enrique "Consejero" Mellado, Brother Alejandro "Fiero" Reyther, and Brother Gilberto "Six-Pack" Leal as Anchor.

From there, the Brothers formed the first executive board consisting of Gilberto Leal as President, German Reyther as Vice-President, Enrique Mellado as Treasurer, and Alejandro Reyther as Secretary.
