Starting in 2008-2009 the GSC launched committees constituting of GSC reps. to handle various issues like academic affairs, sustainability, social events and so on. These committees successfully organized a number of events, workshops and seminars. <\p>
The committees are an opportunity for student reps. to come together in small groups to focus their initiative and efforts to:
- raise awareness about issues that impact the UIC graduate student community.
- create venues, events and outlets to benefit the UIC graduate student community.
The 2009-2010 GSC Committees are:
- Academic Affairs - responsible for creating and launching academically themed workshops or seminars that would benefit the general graduate population. For instance, the Dissertation workshops run last year or workshops on grant writing, paper writing and so on.
- Diversity - helps explore ways in which UIC can expand the diversity of the student and faculty bodies as well as get involved with the UIC Diversity and Strategic Planning Committee.
- Service - gets involved in service projects either with UIC SLDVS or determining needs in the community and devising ways in which graduate students can make a difference in improving the situation in our surroundings.
- Social Events - responsible for organizing multiple interesting social events for the GSC reps and the general UIC graduate community.
- Sustainability - helps explore ways in which UIC can expand sustainability initiatives and helps plan events to raise awareness about them.
We are looking for volunteers to sign up for the committees, especially as leaders. If you are interested, please contact Anushka.
