Graduate Student Organization

Greeting from GSO President

Hello UIC Graduate Students and friends,

Welcome back to all continuing students, faculty, and staff to another year of coursework, clinical work, research, and all-around good times. If you are new to the College of Nursing, a big welcome to you as you begin your graduate school work.

The purpose of GSO is to serve as a link between graduate students, faculty and administration and to address issues that affect our learning at the College of Nursing. Please don’t hesitate to email me (or any of the other officers) with any questions or concerns. We will do our best to find an answer or solution for you.

We have a meeting once a month and host various educational sessions, volunteer opportunities, and social events throughout the year. When I started at UIC, I found that GSO provided me with a connection to other students and to the college. As grad students, we often have much more on our plate that just school, but it is nice to get together with people that are going through the same things, so if you cannot make it to our monthly meetings, we hope that you can join us for a few programs.

GSO, the Health Professions Student Council (HPSC), and the Graduate Student Council (GSC) all have travel grants that you can apply to if you are going to an academic or professional conference, training, or workshop. There are also funds to assist with projects such as hosting speakers or health fairs.  You can find the links to apply for these awards on our web site, or can contact me with any questions you might have.

Please watch out for our e-mail announcements for upcoming events and meetings. I am looking forward to meeting/seeing you all!

Jennifer Baxter
