Research / Discovery
Dr. Schwertz's research focuses on sex/gender differences in cardiac function and in the heart's response to certain factors. Dr. Schwertz's laboratory discovered basic sex differences in hearts. Her research now aims to (1) understand the role of sex, genetics, and hormones on heart function and (2) use this information to develop heart treatments that are optimized by sex/gender. Recent publications have appeared in leading journals and in the book Cardiovascular Health and Disease in Women .
