PhD Curriculum Change Proposal-

This power point presentation contains the results from a survey of faculty and students on the PhD curriculum. It also reviews the proposed changes to the preliminary process.

What is the Tuition Differential?

Some of you had questions regarding this. Here is the answer: The Board of Trustees sets a tuition rate for the university. This tuition rate is meant to cover a portion of the cost of a student's education. In a state-assisted school like UIC, that proportion of cost of education that the student contributes would be considered moderate. For some programs, such as all of those in the health professions, the cost of education is substantially more than compared to other programs. In these cases, an additional amount of the cost must be absorbed by the student. All of the programs in the College of Nursing fall into this category and thus our students are assessed a tuition differential. The tuition differential is figured based on the cost of education and takes into account all other funding sources available to support the educational mission of the college (state appropriations, other sources of income, etc.). The tuition differential is decided by the Dean of the college in consultation with multiple college and university leaders.
