What is the ASN?
The UIC Academic Support Network is a student run cooperation between the Chicago Medical Student Council, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and the Office of Student Affairs.
What does the ASN provide?
The ASN's primary focus is providing tutoring to students who have failed exams (M1, M2, or M3). The ASN also sponsors exam reviews for many M1 midterms, provides contacts for social support, supports the M1 summer tutoring for make-up exams, and co-sponsors a USMLE information session with Alpha Omega Alpha.
Is ASN tutoring confidential?
Yes. Your tutor has signed an agreement not to discuss their tutoring with anyone outside of the ASN administrative staff (OSA, CMSC, and AOA).
Is there a charge for ASN tutoring?
No. ASN tutoring is provided by student volunteers and is 100% free.
Who are the ASN tutors?
ASN tutors are M2, M3, or M4 students who have honored the class they are tutoring. They are volunteers and do not receive compensation for their time.
Who is eligible for ASN tutoring?
ASN tutoring is available to any student who has failed an exam.
What happens if I fail an exam?
The UIC Office of Student Affairs will contact students who have failed exams on an individual basis with information on ASN tutoring.
If I failed an exam, can I contact the ASN directly?
YES! If you have failed an exam you may contact the ASN prior to hearing from OSA. Please contact the current president of AOA or the CMSC and they will confidentially work to get you in touch with an ASN tutor. Our goal is to get you a tutor as quickly as possible.
I did well in a particular class, can I be a tutor?
YES! The ASN is always looking for tutors. Please don't hesitate to contact the AOA or CMSC president if there is a particular class you would like to tutor.
