The minimum requirements to join Psi Chi at
the University of Illinois at Chicago are (as
of Spring 2012):
- You must be enrolled as a student.
- You must have an established UIC GPA.
- You must have completed at
least three semesters (36 hours) of
undergraduate study.
- Transfer students must have
completed 12 hours of study at UIC.
- You must have completed at
least 9 hours in psychology.
- You must be registered as
a major or minor in General or Applied
Psychology OR be registered as a
Neuroscience major.*
- You must have a minimum
overall grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0
point scale.
- You must have a minimum
grade point average in psychology courses of
3.0 on a 4.0 point scale.
*Requirements for
Neuroscience Majors: A total of 18 credit
hours in PSCH or PSCH cross-listed courses
including PSCH 100, 242 and 343.
Applications are accepted
for the first two months of every Fall and
Spring Term.
To apply, please complete an
application form (available
here or in a folder on the PSI CHI
Bulletin Board outside BSB 1009). Be
sure to return your completed application to
Dr. Storm's mailbox in BSB 1009!
Once the verification
process is complete, you will receive
notification whether or not you qualify for
membership. If you qualify, you will be sent
an invitation to join Psi Chi. Dues (a
one-time fee of $50) are paid upon
acceptance of the invitation (DO NOT PAY AT
TIME OF APPLICATION). All new members
are then inducted once a year in a ceremony
toward the end of Spring term.
FALL applications will be
available from the first week of school and
will be due by November 1 and SPRING
applications will be due by March 1.
All chapters (including the
UIC chapter) register their inductees at the
Psi Chi National Office where the membership
records are preserved for reference and
historical purposes. Through 2006, the total
number of members recorded at the National
office exceeds 500,000!
If you joined Psi Chi at a
previous institution, you are still a
member! Membership is for life! If you
wish to transfer your membership, contact
the Faculty Advisor.
