About AACC
The Asian American Coalition Committee is a coaliton of
Asian American students at UIC. It aims to unify Asian American students to strengthen their voice on campus, to educate the entire
UIC community about issues concerning Asian Americans, and to
empower Asian American students through gaining visibility and representation.

Accomplishments
The Asian American Coalition Committee is dedicated to achieving many goals and have accomplished many things so far. These accomplishments include the following:
- Successfully lobbied for Hindi-Urdu language classes at UIC, beginning in the fall of 2001
- Submitted a business proposal for an Asian American Resource and Cultural Center to former Interim Provost Charlotte Tate, who subsequently approved a non-faculty director search for the Center in the spring of 2002
- Held the first annual Asian American Film Series in 2002, with Campus programs
- Held 2nd annual Asian American Awareness Month in March of 2002, with a broader scope of events than ever before
- Successfully lobbied for UIC's first two tenure-track Asian Americanist hires, who joined the Department of English in the summer of 2002
- Successfully lobbied for the establishment of the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) as well as hiring of UIC's first AARCC director, Karen Su
- Staged two successful Speak-Outs for Asian American Studies in the UIC Quad
- Coordinated high-level meetings with the deans of many UIC colleges and department heads in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
- Successfully lobbied for the hiring of two professors in the social sciences that were approved by LAS for Asian American Studies in April 2007
