Asian Pacific
American Medical Students Association
University of Illinois at Chicago Chapter
The Asian Pacific American Medical Student
Association is a national medical student organization dedicated
to the advocacy of quality healthcare for the rapidly growing
APA community through education and volunteer projects. At a
national level, projects have included Hepatitis B intervention
and immunization programs and bone marrow donor recruitment
drives, which address specific needs within the APA community.
Here at UIC, APAMSA's mission includes serving
the diverse APA communities of Chicago as well as enriching the
experiences of all medical students. One of our major projects
this year includes healthcare outreach programs through
community-based social service agencies. Additionally, speakers
will be brought in to address various issues of relevance to the
APA community. Throughout the year, we'll add many more projects
as opportunities arise.
On campus, APAMSA also serves as an academic
support service by providing useful study aids and participating
in the co-sponsored mock practicals.
During the '98-'99 APAMSA National Conference
hosted in Chicago, the UIC chapter was named Co-chapter of the
Year along with Northwestern University. We are proud of this
distinction, and we will do our best to continue bringing you
programs to enhance your medical education and training.
Whether you are a student of Asian descent or
not, we hope that you'll find interest and value in the programs
and activities that APAMSA sponsors. We encourage all of you to
take an active role in our community health projects and
cultural activities.
