Operation Immunization

To increase awareness among the public regarding the health benefits of vaccination and adequately address misconceptions that patients might have about vaccines and to ultimately promote the profession of pharmacy.

Past Projects

  • UIC-COP Annual Immunization Initiative
  • Influenza/Pneumococcal Disease educational presentations at health fairs at:
    • Local retail pharmacies
    • City-sponsored community events
    • Target group centers (such as those for the HIV/AIDS community and Spanish-speaking populations)
  • Informational traveler's vaccine handouts distributed to UIC-COP students
  • Shingles Vaccine educational presentation
  • Advocacy of Traveler's Vaccines

Future Projects

  • Influenza/ pneumococcal disease educational presentations for target populations (high-risk groups such as HIV/AIDS and diabetic patients)

Training Sessions

  • Must attend one training session in order to volunteer in community pharmacies. Experiential classes offer Extra Credit for participating in one flu vaccination clinic in a community pharmacy - more info to come.

Goals for the upcoming year

  1. To increase vaccination rates among UIC health-care personnel and faculty members.
  2. To motivate students to participate in Operation Immunization by addressing their interests.
  3. To focus projects on an array of vaccine preventable diseases, including those not traditionally offered in the retail pharmacy setting.
