Legislative Day and the Legislative Day Teleconference

Here is a quick recap of what happened during the last (yay) student leg day poster teleconference with the other pharmacy schools:

The theme that will tie the posters together this year is the Pharmacy Practice Act.

UIC will present an overview of certified pharmacy technicians, including:

  • Requirements/deadlines to become certified (mention rules of PPA)
  • Abilities once certified (mention rules of PPA)
  • National statistics about certified technicians (states with certification programs, % of techs that are certified)
  • Evidence of improved care with certified techs

Additionally: we will be wearing our white coats again this year. UIC may have to share a bus with MW and/or CSU depending on how many students decide to go from the schools. Our brand new governor Pat Quinn, described as a stand-up fellow by all people I have heard talk about him, is invited to speak at our opening session.

Goals for the upcoming year

  1. Improved participation in the legislative committee meetings
  2. Creating a way to collect information about the impact of student pharmacists in the community that is presentable and relevant to legislators
