American Society of Civil Engineers - UIC ChapterWe are the University of Illinois at Chicago Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a student organization dedicated to the promotion of civil engineering profession. We participate in: competitions (most notably the Concrete Canoe Competition and Steel Bridge Competition at the Annual ASCE Great Lakes Regional Conference), school activities Engineers' Week, seminars/lectures, and outreach/volunteer activities. We also offer a excellent opportunity to network with other Civil Engineering students, professors, alumni and professionals working in the field.
The goal of ASCE - University of Illinois at Chicago Chapter is to promote the profession of Civil Engineering through the student and faculty body; to promote companionship among our fellow students; to educate students about the Civil Engineering Profession; to give back to our surrounding community; to have fun and create a community within the Civil Engineering Department and students; to create a line of communication between the student body and the faculty to effectively communicate our ideas and needs as students.
Annual membership costs $20, which helps pay for various activities and pizza & refreshments provided at our general meetings.
American Society of Civil Engineers - National
Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide, and is America's oldest national engineering society. ASCE's vision is to position engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. The ASCE Website is a great resource for Civil Engineering students to learn more about the profession.
National student membership is free and can be completed online.
American Society of Civil Engineers - Illinois Section
The American Society of Civil Engineers - Illinois Section represents Civil Engineers in Chicagoland and the surrounding suburbs. The Illinois Section Board is made up of the Past President, President, President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, 6 Directors, and the Chairs of the 5 Technical Groups as well as the Younger Member Group Chair.
The Illinois Section Board meets once a month, and the Technical Groups and Younger Member Group meet at least once a month. Professional Development has been the major focus of the Illinois Section, and its 5 Technical Groups, numerous committees, regular technical programs and lecture series provide unique opportunities for civil engineers to interact with their peers.
