| The UIC Chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society currently
has several committees to oversee each aspect of the chapter's planning
and structure. Members are encouraged to inquire about a committee of particular
interest to him/her. All committee members are appointed by the president
and committee chairs. For descriptions of each committee currently in place
as well as information on how to become part of a committee, read below. |

| Social
Programs Committee |
| What They Do: The Social Committee coordinates,
promotes, and supervises all of the activities and events for the
chapter. This committee is responsible for all arrangements and accommodations
for technical, professional, and social activities of our chapter,
including the planning of meetings and distribution of meeting notices
and promotional materials, and inviting speakers and handling all
the arrangements for their visit. If you are interested in becoming
a member of the Social Programs Committee, you should contact the
chapter president or one of the committee members below. |

School Relations Committee |
| What They Do: The High School Relations Committee
designs presentations and projects to promote the field of bioengineering
within the high school and community college communities. This committee
establishes relationships with high schools and colleges where the
Biomedical Engineering Society can reach out to students through bioengineering
presentations, contests, etc. |

| What They Do: The Recruitment/Retaining Committee
is in charge of arranging activities intended to pursue new members
and to retain current members within the UIC community. This committee
works closely with the Public Relations Committee to achieve these

Relations Committee |
| What They Do: The PR committee promotes the
growth of our chapter through new member recruitment throughout the
student body. In addition to individual member recruitment, the committee
also plans and schedules chapter events which will attract prospective

Advisory Committee (DAC) |
| What They Do: The Departmental Advisory Committee
meets with the Bioengineering Department Head three to four times
per academic semester to discuss the state of the department, and
to address any concerns BMES members may have. |

| What They Do: The Fundraising Committee heads
initiatives to raise and secure funds for use by the Biomedical Engineering
Society. |

| Constitution and Bylaws Committee |
| What They Do: The Constitution
Committee designs and maintains the constitution of our chapter of
the BMES, and they make sure that it adheres to all applicable UIC
and national BMES standards. The committee has a thorough knowledge
of the Constitution and Bylaws to ensure that the chapter is functioning
properly. All present and proposed activities, to include nomination
and appointment procedures, must be approved by the committee to make
sure that the chapter is operating legally within the Constitution
and Bylaws. Any amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws are also
handled by this committee. If it is believed that any departure from
the legal procedure is observed, the committee will inform the chapter
president and/or other officers that such practice is not in accordance
with chapter law. If you are interested in becoming a member of the

| Executive Committee |
| What They Do: The Executive
Committee is composed of the elected officers of the chapter, the
faculty advisor, and the chairpersons of all other standing committees.
It is the policy making body of the organization and it has final
approval over all suggested policies and activities. The Executive
Committee maintains open communication with all other committees so
that recommendations can be discussed and implemented in a timely
and productive manner. |
