Stem Cell Society October GBM
HEY EVERYONE IT’S TIME FOR STEM CELL SOCIETY’S OCTOBER GBM!
Stem Cell Society will be meeting next Tuesday October 22 to discuss events, activities and plans scheduled for the months of October and November. We will be meeting in SEO 236 at 5:15.
THE MAIN GOAL OF THIS MEETING WILL BE TO REACH A CONSENSUS ON WHICH LAB YOU ALL WOULD LIKE TO TOUR FIRST. As mentioned before, we will consider touring any lab that will open their doors to us, regardless of whether that involves stem cell research or not. This means those of you interested in visiting a lab doing medical imaging research or neuroengineering, can feel more than welcome to push and rally for such lab. That being said, please come with some sort of idea as to what you would like to tour!
If you feel as though you’re still somewhat clueless as to what research goes on here at UIC, then fear not, for I am here to save the day (sort of)! I will try to construct and send a document with Professors’ labs and the research they’re conducting. Hopefully I will have that ready for you over the weekend. But explore for yourself because knowledge is power! And for those of you daredevils, consider this as an opportunity to approach a Professor about their research! Seriously Just Do It! Just go up to them and say “Hey what do you even do here?”………….Well no don’t say that, say something a little less brutal and learn a bit about their research but don’t get intimidated. It’s a great way to get your face out there!
BUT IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A SAY IN THE LAB WE TOUR, MAKE SURE YOU COME TO CAST YOUR VOTE!
At the end of our discussion we will be watching an unfathomably awesome documentary about a Northwestern doctor and his personal struggle and pursuit in stem cell research. This documentary is phenomenal and thoroughly compelling , so I invite all of you to stay and watch. Hopefully we are all done (or almost done) with midterms so we can relax and enjoy this incredibly story. If not, feel free to bring homework or study material to the showing, but remember to be courteous to those watching.
Hope to see you all there!
