Chicago Medical Student Council

President: Jon Kaplan

The Chicago Medical Student Council, CMSC, is the student government organization most intimately linked to student life at the Chicago campus. CMSC falls under the Health Professions Student Council (HPSC), which is one the 3 student government bodies at UIC, and also under University Medical Student Council (UMSC), which governs issues for medical students at all four University of Illinois campuses.

CMSC is not only a means of communication between medical students in the various classes, but it is also the primary vector between the student body and the administration. CMSC maintains representatives on many different curriculum committees and subcommittees, controls distribution of campus funds to student groups, and sponsors bimonthly meetings with the Deans, known as the Dialogue with the Deans.

CMSC has instituted an annual Leadership Retreat in the fall for the support and training of student leaders at UIC and supports Volunteer Day and the Winter Ball. CMSC has worked with the administration to construct a support network for students who are struggling academically, furthering the relationship between the student body and the Alumni Association, engaging in the ongoing discourse with the administration on the East side of campus regarding health benefits, and putting forth a diversity statement to be recognized by the medical student body at large.

CMSC meetings are held on the last Monday of the month at 5:30 pm in room 367 CME. Our meetings are open and we welcome any and all students to join us.
