Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) is a group organized and run by volunteer student leaders, advisors from the Department of Family Medicine at UIC, and the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP). The focus of the group and monthly meetings are to introduce medical students to the specialty of family practice. Some of our meetings provide valuable information about family practice, including residencies, and lifestyles and opportunities of the family physician, while other activities include workshops in areas such as phlebotomy, suturing and casting. We encourage all students to come to the meetings and workshops, for they are not just for those interested in family practice and primary care. We also provide an exciting month long summer externship program for members and a networking workshop in the fall.

To become a member, free of charge, look for our booth during orientation week and sign up. As a member you will receive the monthly publication from the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Family Physician, and you will be able to apply for the summer externship program.

FMIG is an informal group of students looking to learn more about family practice and developing our skills as future physicians. We invite all interested students to become involved in FMIG and help us plan a fun, interesting and informative meetings.
