La Raza Medical Student Association
Co-President: Mayra Cruz UIC website La Raza Medical Student Association (La RaMA) is an organization that provides academic and social support to medical students. La RaMA is strongly affiliated with the National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS), a national organization founded to represent, support, educate and unify U.S. Latino medical students. NNLAMS-La RaMa is dedicated to serving the Latino community, increasing the number of Latino students pursuing careers in medicine and ensuring academic excellence once in medical school. We organize a variety of events throughout the year that include volunteering at health fairs, teaching a Medical Spanish Terminology class to our fellow classmates, mentoring undergraduate members of UIC's Health Oriented Latino Association (HOLA), organizing the Big Sib-Little Sib mentoring project (in partnership with SNMA), and fundraising through social events such as Salsa Night. To become a member you must complete a membership application and pay organization dues. You can join at the activities fair during orientation week or during any of our meetings.
