INFORMATION FOR GUEST SPEAKERS

The Undergraduate Economics Club at UIC is a student organization that seeks to provide a meaningful extracurricular activity for students interested in economics. About 20-30 undergraduate students regularly attend the weekly meetings. Most Club members are economics majors; some have majors in other business or social science disciplines.

The students have a strong interest in presentations that address substantive issues related to economics and business, as well as those that describe the activities of private firms and government agencies in the Chicago area. In addition, they value learning about various career paths available to economics graduates, internships and entry-level positions, as well as specific examples of job opportunities. Information regarding advanced education (e.g., MBA programs, Law School) is also of interest to many students.

The Club meets every other Wednesday during the Fall and Spring semesters. The meetings take place in room 2150 University Hall, from 2:00 until 2:50 pm, or from 3:00 - 3:50pm (the times vary across semesters). The presentations are always very informal; students often ask questions and make comments along the way. Professor Akarca and / or Professor Lehrer, the faculty advisors to the club, typically attend the meetings. The President of the Club, a student elected by the members, chairs the meetings.

As to equipment, we can always get a projector for transparencies (please let us know if you will need a projector in advance). In preparing the flyers announcing our bi-weekly events, it helps us to have your position within the firm/ agency and, if appropriate, a title for your presentation.

University Hall is the tallest building on campus; it is located at 601 S. Morgan Street, in the corner of Morgan and Harrison. Please come to room 2150 on the 21st floor using the elevators on the South side of the building.

The most convenient parking for our guest speakers is Lot 9 (Harrison and Morgan), but this lot is sometimes full. Lot 7 (on Harrison, between Morgan and Racine), and Lot 4 (Halsted and Taylor) are other possibilities. If you drive to campus, please give your parking ticket to the Club President, and he / she will validate it for you. For driving instructions, as well as information regarding trains and buses, please check the following link:
