What is IDS? IDS stands for Information
and Decision Sciences. What is IDSO? (Information and Decision Sciences Organization) The Information and
Decision Sciences Organization is a pre-professional student organization
that aims to provide knowledge and support to those interested in the
field of information systems, operations research and statistics. We are
here to publicize resources and opportunities to further the careers of
future professionals of business systems. Do I have to be an IDS major to participate in this organization? No. Members do not
have to be an IDS major to participate in this organization. Where and when are the meetings held? IDSO meetings are
usually held every TUESDAY at 5:00 PM in Lecture Center E1. The meeting
time and location might vary from time to time, so it is a good idea to
keep an eye on our website for the most current details. Why would one want to be a member? As an organization, we
provide many resources for our members. First and foremost, we bring
quality guest speakers to our meetings. These speakers can range from
recruiters in Chicago area companies to important figures within the
college and major to CEOs of corporations. When one becomes a member of
the IDS Organization, you are entitled to attend our meetings and you will
be given access to many other resources. How does one become a member? It is quite simple to
become a member. While at one of our meetings, fill out a registration
form. After filling out a registration form, you must pay the $10
membership fee. Dues are paid on a semester basis. These dues help us
maintain our existence as an organization. We receive no funding from UIC
or the College of Business. Where and when can I apply for summer internship? Most all IDSO guest
speakers will be accepting resumes for internships and job positions. Internships are important
aids in achieving a competitive position in the current job market. You can also
send your resume directly a corporation's human resource department via
many corporations' web sites. UIC CBA has seminars and special programs to
help students acquire internships.
The IDSO On-line Resume
System is meant to give you another forum to promote yourself to your
future employers. When you fill in the registration form to become an IDSO
member, there is a spot for you to state your preferred password for this
system. After you submit this form, the IDSO will process your account.
Your login for the system will be your Icarus NetID (i.e. jdoe1) and your
password will be the one that you specified on the form. You should
receive an e-mail shortly after you sign up as an IDSO member. This e-mail
will confirm your password for the system. You will be required to log
into the IDSO On-line Resume System via the IDSO web site and enter your
resume. Simply click on the resume portion of the site, log in and cut and
paste your resume. After you complete this process, your resume will be
viewable to all of the companies that have visited us in the past and
future. This system helps you by getting resume out to companies. It also
helps the IDS Organization recruit speakers to our meetings. When
employers see the many qualifications and talents that our members
possess, they have more of an enticement to visit us. What is INFORMS and when do they meet? For more information on the
UIC Chapter of INFORMS, visit their web site at http://www2.uic.edu/stud_orgs/prof/informs/ If you still have a question, please feel free to contact an IDSO member today!
