Jewish Health Professions Students
JHPS is an organization that aims to create a cultural network of Jewish
students studying the various health professions at UIC. We hope for this to be an opportunity
for Jewish students to meet each other. To ask a question or to become involved with organizing events, contact the appropriate chairperson.
The goals of JHPS:
- To provide academic support for students. This includes providing book recommendations, setting up mock exams, and giving study suggestions.
- To create a social network amongst Jewish students by having informal "bagel lunches" once a month where students at different levels can meet each other, talk, and get advice. We will also plan other social events as appropriate throughout the year.
- To volunteer in the Chicago Jewish community at the Ark (an organization for low income Jews) and the Council for Jewish Elderly. We will also arrange for students to visit Jewish patients in area hospitals and organize holiday parties for them.
- To create a cross-cultural awareness of Judaism through educational holiday observances and speakers on a variety of relevant topics.
- To foster a political awareness of issues involving the worldwide Jewish community outside of school.
