Amigos de LASCO,
The official LASCO listserv is now up and running. The LASCO listserv is an efficient means of communicating with all subscribing LASCO members. Rather then sending stuff to the LASCO executive members and having them send it, you can post memos of interest, late breaking information, or begin a dialogue with other subscribers of the LASCO listserv.
To subscribe to the LASCO listserv, you must do the following:
(1.) Open your Icarus or UICVM account (you need your account ID and password.
(2.) Once you've opened your account and received an ID number, send a message to "listserv@uic.edu" (of course do not include the quotation marks).
If you are using UICVM, do so by sending the command: MAIL listserv@uic.edu
If you are using Icarus, type PINE at the initial prompt. Then choose (compose message) in the main menu. You will get a screen that looks like:
TO: listserv@uic.edu cc: Attmnt: Subject:
(3.) In the "message text" screen, type:
subscribe LASCO firstname lastname (enter)
For instance:
subscribe LASCO Juan Diego Rivera
(4.) Send your message. You'll have to wait about 5 minutes before the listserv "operator" responds to your request to subscribe. When youdo hear from the "operator", don't erase the message. It includes important information on how to used the listserv, as well as how to unsubscribe.
(5.) Once you hear from the operator that you are a subscribing member, you may post a message for all fellow subscribers to read by writing to: LASCO@listserv.uic.edu
(6.)Keep in mind that this is a listserv, and that anything you write or respond to goes to ALL subscribing members.
(7.)Finally, the LASCO listserv is moderated by Professor Carlos Aleman. This means that the mail passes through his account as the "server" before heading out to all members. The listserv is a space for dialogue and information, not chisme about fellow Latinos.
We encourage all LASCO members and interested people to pass the word about the listserv.
