Asian American Intervarsity

AAIV is...

a growing community of Asian Americans committed to being a witness of Christ's love.

History

Once upon a time (around 1998) Asian American InterVarsity was a chapter of 20 and in deep trouble. The exec team was wrought with strife, and the prospect of new members looked bleak. The idea of disbanding the chapter came up more than once.

However, instead of turning away, the leadership team turned to prayer, and prayed their hearts out. These men and women cared deeply for the chapter despite their disagreements and cried out to God for AAIV. And He was faithful.

That fall of 1998, a freshmen class entered with strong numbers and strong leaders These incoming freshmen doubled the size of the chapter. Through their energy and leadership, AAIV has grown greatly through the years. The influence of the prayer warriors laid out a strong foundation for the chapter's ministry.

But through the years, as these prayer warriors graduated (their names being lost to the new generation of students), prayer in our chapter has also seemingly taken a decline. By the 2000-2001 school year, the prayer coordinator alone was attending the daily prayer meetings.

From 2001-2004 various methods have been tried to increase attendance at the prayer meetings and have been successful to certain degrees, but the gap left behind by the prayer warriors of old... lies yet to be filled.

Who will step up? Who will seize the opportunity to step into God's presence and contend for our chapter? Who will once again take up the call and sow seeds of prayer to be reaped on our campus in this generation and generations to come? Will it be you?

Year 2006-2007

Fast forward to 2006 :O) Yet another group of leaders have faithfully stepped up to God's calling by serving in Asian American InterVarsity. Looking back at the circumstances the leaders faced in its years of 1998, the new leaders now stand against new challenges.

With many people walking in and out the doors of AAIV every year, and numbers in attendance secure - AAIV is now trying to reach out to the greater stretches of the UIC campus.

Keep checking for more postings as I, Tiffany Leung, will keep you updated on the on-goings of the chapter this year!
