1. H.O.M.E. ?Days & times flexible/pending
Volunteers will help low income elderly maintain their independence by performing work such as painting, gardening, sewing, cards, movies, musical entertainment, transportation assistance, holiday festivity preparation, and some other projects to help the elderly.
2. Arts of Life ?Weekdays, 2-3 hours between 9 am-2 pm
Volunteers work with adults with developmental disabilities by helping with art making and with art prep (stretching canvas/IT design). No art experience is needed.
3. Anixter Center ?Any day and time, very flexible
Anixter Center assists disabled adults so that they may live successfully in their communities. Volunteers can get involved in programs such as substance abuse prevention and treatment, literacy programs, one-on-one mentoring (which includes helping them utilize the community and bonding events such as trips to movies, coffee shops, and more).
4. YMCA ?Weekly, flexible, M-F between 3-6
Volunteers can tutor 4-8 graders or can help with coaching a basketball team. Both commitments are after school during the weekdays.
5. Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago ?Weekly, 1-2 hours
Volunteers can get involved with children through tutoring, mentoring, being a referee, cultural enrichment aide (visual and performing arts), social events coordinator, or computer aide.
6. Chicago Hopes ?Weekdays after school, time differs per location
Volunteers help tutor homeless children grades K-12 at a shelter. Homework and possibly some art projects are involved with this activity. There are 5 different locations from which volunteers can choose.
7. Dignity Diner ?Once a month, Wed night (pending)
Help serve food for the homeless at a soup kitchen. Volunteers can also get involved in art activities with the homeless through talent shows, art displays, and an inspiration caf? Volunteers can also help distribute clothing gear when the weather gets colder.
8. DuSable Campus ?Weekly, Sat 12-2 (pending)
Join students in helping better the environment at a Chicago public high school. Activities include helping get the lead out of the soil in preparation for gardening, planting a garden, and occasional beach clean-ups. They may also need help from artistic volunteers with making sculptures for the garden. Tutoring opportunities are also available for volunteers who desire to further aid and bond with the students.
9. Links Hall ?Fri-Sun during performances
This organization helps individuals with their artistic innovation and performing arts. It is a home that also has performance space. Volunteers will be helping with the box office and ushering, bulk mailing, flyer distribution, data entry, and drives to help keep the rehearsal space free for the artists.
