| Our History... Tau Phi Sigma was founded on November 11, 1992. On this day, thirteen students gathered for the first time with the intention of establishing a new fraternity at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign. These men were looking for an organization that would fulfill their interest in promoting higher education, serving the community, promoting social activities, and establishing a true brotherhood with each other. With these common ideas as a foundation, they began to establish a new fraternity. Eventually, a constitution was written, and eighteen young leaders became the Founding Fathers of Sigma Tau Phi. The Found Fathers, in order to prove themselves worthy, went through their own twelve week pledging process. These twelve weeks of education and discipline ended on May 1, 1993 and created a brotherhood made up of the first seventeen members of Sigma Tau Phi and was named the Genesis line. As the first line, Genesis went through a lot of hard work and faced many obstacles. And because of problems with the IFC, Sigma Tau Phi became Tau Phi Sigma. Tau Phi Sigma crossed over their second pledge line Mercury on the day of their One Year Anniversary, November 11, 1993. Mercury made up of two members, crossed over in six weeks, and helped prove that Tau Phi Sigma was real, growing, and strong. |
