SNA membership fee can be applied to the registration fee...$7 SNA membership = SNA members attend for free!
SNA will try to provide free registration to most of
the conventions ....

College in Olney IL

FUNDRAISING PROJECTS:
CANDY SALE - March 3rd - 7th
-similar to bake sale but from Costco or Sam's club that we will individually wrap to sell in class
- during the week of March 3rd - 7th (no clinical week) on member's own time.
- Return fundraise $ and extra candy to Tan Hua on Monday March 10th @ 8am main lobby.
Wednesday, February 26th , 10 am
-Alexis, Mai, Tan, and Rowena will meet (west side CIU deli) to buy bulk candy from
Costco or Sam's club
- then we will help wrap the candy
Monday, March 3rd @ 8am
- Meet college of nursing main lobby to distribute candy bags.
Thursday, March 6th
Krispy Kreme Sale
- 60 boxes of donuts on March 6th
- another 50 boxes of donuts in early April
- Tan and Mai will be selling all day (8am-1pm?) along with Alexis, Gina, Arthur,
Melissa, Rowena, & Tina...(email me if anyone can make it)
- $6/dozen or $0.50 cents/ single
- Have flyers about SNA for distribution
- wear nursing lab coats to promote the existence of SNA on the west side...along with
stethoscopes and any nusc 225 lab materials like IVs for attraction.
- Arthur will provide a boom box and music!!!!!
Friday, March 7th 9am to 1pm (review/make ARTS & CRAFTS)
- a project we will set up with pre-make (ready to give) and some not-ready-make "bears" or bunny", have people pay us $2-3 or so per
bear/bunny, attach a name/comment tag, collect in a box, finally, distribute to designed hospital (s).
- email Mai if you have a theme of this project such as "wish/give a bear/bunny"
- Hang will contact Joann for sponsorship (discounts/donated supplies) to this project with her cute bear as sample.
- everyone can help by checking for sponsorships from different business companies.
- meet in College of nursing main lobby to review supplies/materials to make our arts and crafts. Friday,
March 7th 9am to 1pm.
- make "wish a bear" "give a bear" "give a bunny"
- make flower pens
- make origami (paper folded "get well" 3-D animals or flowers)
- make ribbons fishes, stars, flowers.
- can anyone make candles from wax??? i can order bath & body shop "fragrances"
Thursday, March 27th

- still waiting for a flyer with the whole day agenda
IL nurses Association (INA) 2003-2004 scholarship ($1000-$1500)
- Nursing students (sorry must have completed 12 hrs with 4 nursing hrs)
- Due May 1st
- I will check on the status of SNAI membership requirement.
NEXT MEETING:
Pre-nursing decide on when in early April we can have SNA meeting on the
east side. (west side students schedule are open with late Monday 4pm, late
Tuesday 5pm, or Friday after 4pm).
Sponsorship Proposal
- business companies (Abbott, Baxter's, banks, drug stores) to be our sponsors in terms of funding for
conventions, supplies, networking, discounts,, and most importantly, scholarships for SNA members,
- In return, we give employees, health assessment (vitals, CV, resp, neuro, GI/GU, physical assessments) and TEACHING on health awareness such as
vitals, abnormal signs & symptoms, DM, MI, stroke, drug interactions, stress
reduction, prenatal pregnancy care, etc...

set up networking with one of the associations to promote the profession of nursing and health in general.
Some new projects?
- SNA members putting a puppet "nursing" show to the UIH hospital kids???
teach them about health awareness and have fun?!
- SNA Bowling night/ Game Night/ a Sport tournament with a cultural potluck?

SNA 1st meeting recap:
Membership = $7/semester
SNA Nursing Issue: SNA Fall 2002 members' sense of discouragement "no money, no members, no
time" R/T the loss of SNA 's main purposes.
SNA Interventions: Recruit new and old members b/c SNA is a great and fun organization to be a
member. Address the mission of SNA at UIC, which is to foster nursing education, facilitate early unity among our future colleagues in nursing,
and to optimize the nursing student's exposure to the numerous specialties and pathways in the ever-changing field of nursing. In addition, enjoy
nursing school ^_^
Plans:
- Health fair with College of Med (a very good project to practice your nursing assessments and communication skills plus helping the community ^_^
waiting to hear from med college.
- Blood Drive - mai will contact blood drive.
- fundraising to support our expenses to conventions and end of semester celebration. Plans:
February 15th flowers filled with SNA nursing love ^_^
Jessica will check on contact with flower shop for discounted flowers.
- HPREP with minority kids to intro them to the health profession with Northwestern SNMA (this is an 8-wk project, every
Saturday morning with
high school students, this weekend will be their 3rd, their first wk was about ethical issues in health, 2nd wk panel discussion r/t health
profession with health students from diff health colleges, showed them clinical settings at northwestern hospital, and checked out microscope with
histological.
- Mai attended as a health panelist with SNMA Jan
25 10am to recruit nursing profession.
- IL student lobby day in Springfield (April) r/t nursing issues...be really surprised about the impt of addressing nursing issues.
- NSNA annual convention in Phoenix, AZ (April 23-27) - Mai, Tan, Alexis, Sue,
Hang, and Arthur will attend.

- we can present nursing opportunities such as nursing internships and summer nursing research internships b/c nursing is not only in the
hospital...we can do clinical research even with BSN...
- professors Gorman and fahrenwald are helpful for the students to explore and preparing for post-BSN opportunities with advanced degrees...
