Star Wars: Starfighter Battles Part One (1998)

Starfighter Battles Part One focuses on the Battle of Yavin as seen in Star Wars: Episode IV. This was my first attempt at a top-view arcade style space shooter. Also due to the nature of the specific ships to be displayed, almost all the models and effects were made from scratch.

A traditional level design, boss battle, and score counter was also a first for games I had developed up to this point.

Stage One: Death Star Attack (Attack/Avoid enemy fighters)
Stage Two: Death Star Surface (Attack/Avoid enemy turrets)
Stage Three: Death Star Trench (Avoid turrets, evade boss)

Star Wars: Starfighter Battles Part Two (2000)

Starfighter Battles Part Two focuses on the Battle of Hoth as seen in Star Wars: Episode V. Unlike Part One, Part Two use a side view. Here we also begin to see a more organized user interface for keeping track of game statistics. With the exception of explosion effects, all art assets were made from scratch. The All-Terrain Armored-Transport boss (second picture below) was one of the largest and most challenging objects I had animated at the time of release.

Star Wars: Starfighter Battles Part Three (2002)

Starfighter Battles Part Three focuses on the Battle of Endor as seen in Star Wars: Episode VI. The game is similar to Part One as it uses a top-view. Notable challenges include dodging walls while entering and escaping from the interior of the Death Star.

During development of this game, I started to plan a second version or sequel for the entire Starfighter Battles series. This included improved models (the Alliance starship models that were included in this version as pictured below) and gameplay.

Stage One: Death Star II Fighters (Attack/Avoid enemy fighters)
Stage Two: Death Star II Surface Run (Attack/Avoid enemy turrets and fighters)
Stage Three: Death Star II Interior (Evade obstacles, destroy the core, evade obstacles on the way out)
