Bunny Quest (2005)

When I look back at all the games I’ve made using Kilk & Play, I see Bunny Quest as the best and last of them. Not only did I develop this game in under a week, but it was the first and only game that was developed beyond my personal entertainment.

Bunny Quest was created for the Conant High School 2005 Bunny Eggstravaganza. Here various school organization created various activities for children ages 5-10. As president of Electronics Club, I had organized club members to play Super Smash brothers which the children.

As this was the first year that the Electronics Club participated in this event, I also wrote this side-view platformer to entertain the children..

Stage One is a simple platform-style game. The player jumps over bushes, across bridges to collect the eggs. There are also rabbit holes that the player can jump into to avoid “the hunter” as he paces back and forth in a part of the level.

Stage Two (not pictured) has the player navigate through a dark tunnel where only the paths direcly visible to the bunny is shown. This is the first time I has implemented a system that hid areas from the player based on his position.

In Stage Three the player walks along a beach, finding a sand castle that allows the player to throw eggs. In the final part of the level (pictured above), the player faces off with “the hunter.” Following the hunter’s defeat, the bunny jumps into a StarFox 64 arwing and fights more enemies in space, eventually leading to another boss. This is my favorite Kilk & Play game due to the fact it was created with a target audience other than myself as well as the “near” original content. Also the feedback from the children that played the game was also encouraging.
