I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Department of Chemistry.

I have earned my B.Sc. at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara (2001). METU accepts students through a country-wide matriculation exam, and my department admits students from the 1st percentile (my ranking was, 249th over 1.5 million candidates). During my undergraduate education, we had the chance to take advanced courses on chemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics, recombinant DNA technologies, microbiology and biotechnology.

For the following two years, 2001-2003, I have worked for my M.Sc. at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, under supervision of Prof. Tayfun Ozcelik. My thesis was on genetics of breast cancer susceptibility. We have worked on possible impact of CHEK2 and RNASEL gene mutations, and X-chromosome inactivation status on breast cancer progression. My thesis was on possible association of RNASEL mutations and breast cancer (Anticancer Research, 24, 2547-9, 2004).

Currently, I am at the final stage for completing my research for my thesis, and I expect to fulfill the requirements for my Ph.D. by May 2011.
