" Me  "

I am called AKIN SEVINC, since the time I was born to my life, on May 17, 1979, in İzmir. The beautiful city, where I have spent my most of life... I was always a little bit different from other kids, as now also I am... After a matriculation exam, I had the chance to go to Buca Anatolian High School, receiving a premiership throughout the school :) After three years and three theater plays, and as many as thousand poems, I entered Science High School exams and I had the chance to go to Izmir Science High school. But as being a very home-sick person, saying "it is stupid to stay in school dorm in the same city with my home!". I had my high school education in Izmir Turk Science High School. I had very nice 3 years there, where;

- I was a member of the theater group of the high school where we played 3 semi-professional plays,

- I prepared a project for TUBITAK (The Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council) country-wide project contest, and my project ranked 4th,

- I was a member of TUBITAK Turkish Biology Olympics team, till the mid of my third year,

- I kept playing guitar, which is now more than 15 years,

- I kept writing poems,

And then I entered MIDDLE EAST TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY - DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS, in 1997.

I graduated in 2001, with Honours ...

I had my studies for M.S. degree in BILKENT UNIVERSITY - DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY AND GENETICS. And I have finished in late summer of 2003.

After spending one more year in Bilkent University, as a Doctorate Degree candidate, I decided to continue my academic studies in US, and now, I am...  <to be continued>

.. at UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO, DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY. I am currently a member of an extremely successful and nice group (Dr. Fung's group), and continuing my research for my PhD degree in Biochemistry... At the same time, I am the president of the Chemistry Graduate Student Association (ChemGSA). After "graduating" from the presidency of the graduate student association, I found myself as one of the most lucky people in my department. I have been assigned to the position that I would only say that, the one that suits me best. I have always been interested in "coordinator" positions in my previous emloyements, and now I have been assigned as the General Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator...
