SPECTRIN

Spectrin is an important cellular protein. Along with several other roles in the cellular metabolism, it is a major constituent of the (cyto) skeleton, where it has been shown that it forms a sub-membrane filamentous network. Spectrin undertakes this by the tetramerization of the heterodimers of alpha- and beta-spectrin chains (Spα and Spβ, respectively and, SpαII and SpβII for brain isoform). In our research, we are using, in an effort to characterize the tetramerization, recombinant model proteins of non-erythroid alpha spectrin with wild type non-erythroid beta spectrin..
