Yet another invasive species (my daughter's favorite one)  disperses into Chicago.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Ecology and Evolution Group of the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). I conduct research as a member of Dr. David Wise's lab group. I am also a fellow in both the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) program entitled Landscape, Ecological, and Anthropogenic Processes (LEAP) and the Institute for Environmental Science and Policy (IESP). The LEAP program aims to understand ecological processes in human-altered landscapes. The IESP aims at devising workable solutions to complex environmental issues by facilitating interdisciplinary research and collaboration among academic, public, and private sectors.

Research Interests: In general, I am interested in the many ways that individual species (humans included), community structure, and ecosystem processes interact to influence one another, ecosystem functionality, and future community development, particularly in the context of ecological restorations and biological invasions. I wish to study these interactions at a holistic-systems level, and have therefore become interested in utilizing non-reductionist methodologies such as multivariate statistics and agent-based models that allow for the detection of significant patterns among the many highly-interrelated factors that exist in ecological systems. Lastly, I am also interested in studying the extent at which ecosystem services can be provided by various landcovers (e.g. native gardens, parks, greenroofs, etc.) in human-dominated settings.
